Nutritional therapy support for Candida overgrowth

Recurrent thrush, persistent bloating, brain fog that won’t lift, sugar cravings that feel impossible to shift — if this all sounds familiar, Candida overgrowth could be part of the picture.

Candida Albicans is a yeast that normally lives in healthy balance with the other bacteria and yeasts in the body, but certain conditions can allow it to multiply, damaging the gut lining and placing extra strain on the immune system. We offer personalised nutritional therapy for people managing Candida-related symptoms, taking the time to properly understand individual history, triggers and lifestyle.

Symptom picture

Common symptoms associated with Candida overgrowth

Once Candida multiplies beyond its normal balance, it can release toxins into surrounding tissue and the bloodstream, and many of the symptoms experienced are thought to come from these toxins rather than the yeast itself. If several of the following feel familiar, it may well be worth exploring together:

  • Diarrhoea or constipation
  • Recurrent thrush, vaginitis and cystitis
  • Rectal itching
  • Headaches
  • Depression, mood swings and anxiety
  • Bloating, gas and indigestion
  • Slow metabolism
  • Menstrual cramps and irregularities
  • Lethargy, “foggy head” and poor memory
  • Fatigue
  • Acne
  • Food intolerances and allergies
  • Underactive thyroid
  • Blood sugar imbalance (hypoglycaemia)
  • Hyperactivity
  • Fungal infections such as athlete’s foot
  • Muscle and joint aches and pains
  • Bad breath, coated tongue, ulcers and sore mouth
  • Cravings for sweet foods, bread and alcohol
  • Sensitivity to perfumes, chemicals, fumes and other strong smells
  • Frequent colds and infections
Contributing factors

What contributes to Candida overgrowth?

The single most common contributing factor is a history of antibiotic use. Antibiotics don’t just clear harmful bacteria — they also wipe out the healthy bacteria that keep the gut in balance, leaving room for resistant organisms like Candida to overgrow unchecked. A number of other factors can also play a part:

  • Steroid use (such as treatment for asthma or arthritis)
  • The contraceptive pill and HRT
  • Low adrenal function
  • A diet high in refined sugars
  • Poor nutrition and nutrient deficiencies
  • Surgery
  • Poor immune function
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Diabetes
  • Heavy metal exposure (such as lead or mercury)
  • Stress
  • IBS
  • ME
The approach

How nutrition can help

Quite often, a detailed look at the symptom picture alone is enough to build an effective nutrition programme; in some cases a simple test can help confirm the presence of Candida. From there, a personalised nutrition and supplement plan generally works in three stages: reducing Candida’s food supply to weaken it, introducing specific natural anti-fungal support known to help address the overgrowth, and finally repopulating the gut with beneficial bacteria to help reduce the likelihood of it recurring.

*Individual results vary. Nutritional therapy supports general wellbeing. Read more client stories →

Nutritional therapy is a complementary approach that supports general health and wellbeing. It does not replace individual medical assessment. Anyone currently taking prescribed medication should continue taking it as directed, and any changes should always be made through whoever prescribed it. Individual results vary and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.

Candida & nutritional therapy

Common questions

Nutritional therapy works by identifying the individual factors behind the overgrowth — diet, stress, medication history, immune function — and building a personalised plan to reduce Candida’s food supply, support the body with targeted natural anti-fungal approaches, and repopulate the gut with beneficial bacteria to help prevent recurrence.
Not always. Often, a detailed look at the symptom picture is enough to build an effective plan, though a simple test can be used to confirm Candida’s presence where useful.
The approach is practical and personal. Rather than blanket restriction, the plan looks at what genuinely suits the individual, using accessible food and practical guidance that fits real life.
